Dr. Laurel Dhority
History and Background
Dr. Laurel was born in Austin, Texas, and raised in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She always knew she wanted to work with animals. As a child, she built "animal habitats" by the trees in her backyard for lizards and frogs, and set out cardboard boxes stocked with pet food for the neighborhood's stray cats and dogs. But it was not until high school, after helping a pregnant ewe deliver twin lambs, that she realized she was meant to be a veterinarian. Growing up, she was an active member of her local 4-H club, FFA chapter, and livestock show team, where she showed Market Lambs and Hair Sheep, all while sharing her home with numerous rescue dogs and cats. Dr. Laurel earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a Pre-Veterinary concentration and a minor in Agricultural Business from the University of Arkansas in 2021, and went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2025.

Professional Journey
Before veterinary school, Dr. Laurel worked as a receptionist at a small animal clinic. After graduating, she believed her future was in equine medicine and began an internship in Texas, but it turned out not to be where God was calling her to be. Her fiance, a native of Opelousas who grew up a close family friend of Drs. Kevin and Tanina, put her in touch with them, and they asked if she would consider small animal medicine instead. Although she loves horses, she and her fiance had just gotten engaged and wanted to move back to Louisiana to be closer to family, so the timing could not have been more perfect! Dr. Laurel has special interests in nutritional health and obesity management, surgery, behavior, and reproduction, but she honestly loves it all.

Where She Is Now
Dr. Laurel shares her home with her rescue Mountain Cur mix, Bucky Barnes, and her two rescue cats, T'Challa and Rhodey. She and her fiance, Adam, who was born and raised in Opelousas, are getting married in December 2026! When she is not at the clinic, she enjoys reading, arts and crafts, fitness, the great outdoors, and all things Star Wars and Marvel, as her pets' names might suggest. A fun fact about Dr. Laurel: she is absolutely obsessed with sharks and plans to go diving with them soon!
