History and Background

Dr. Katie was born in rural Waverly, Louisiana, where her dad was a corn farmer and the family home sat at the back of one of his fields. As a kid, she remembers many stray dogs and cats wandering onto the property. Her family would feed and care for them, and the strays would never leave! She spent all of her time outside looking after them. Dr. Katie graduated from Franklin Academy in Winnsboro, Louisiana, with just 13 other people in her graduating class, then earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. From there, she was accepted into Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2026.

Professional Journey

While in veterinary school, Dr. Katie worked as a veterinary technician at a 24/7 animal emergency center in Baton Rouge, an experience that gave her a passion for providing the highest quality of care to every patient, no matter the case. Knowing she wanted to stay close to family, she completed externships at several hospitals across Louisiana, but Bellevue blew her away with how compassionate the team is and how much they truly love what they do. She knew she wanted to be part of a clinic where she could put clients and pets first and provide the best care possible. From her time in the animal ER, Dr. Katie developed a love for fast-paced urgent cases, caring for pets when they need it most and providing comfort to their owners. She also has a passion for surgery. Having grown up with so many strays, she has seen firsthand how important spaying and neutering is in helping with the overpopulation issues often found in rural areas.

Where She Is Now

Dr. Katie lives with her husband, Zack, and their four fur babies: Freddie and Winifred, two mini dachshunds, Jim, an orange tabby, and Phillip, a gray tabby. Freddie and Winifred were actually featured in a magazine for their costumes at the Krewe De Pooch dog parade, as pictured here! When she is not at the clinic caring for patients, Dr. Katie has a deep love for music. She has an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, a ukulele, a violin, and a piano that she loves to play in her free time. Growing up, she played music and sang in churches, at one point rotating between six churches as a regular part of the Sunday song service!
